“Lunch at Novella” was inspired by my fascination with the division and connection between the interior and exterior self. The exterior masking the interior emotions and thoughts as we move through our daily lives. This masking can cause inner turmoil as emotions and thoughts are suppressed. This suppression causes an imbalance and lack of harmony within. It is this constant struggle to obtain and sustain harmony that my work addresses, the ever changing, challenging journey through life. It is my desire in this body of work to reveal both the interior and exterior self during different stages in life as we continue to search and obtain harmony. This installation was created to encourage an out of body experience of sorts, to allow the viewer a place to pause and reflect. This self-reflection, leads to an awareness of being part of the cycle of life. It is my hope that this discovery will encourage awareness in the viewer of a greater purpose in life. Lunch at Novella, consists of twelve paintings and twelve drawings attached to three panel triptych supports. The interior panels are paintings, which reflect a different month of the year and represent different stages of life. The exterior panels are drawings, which reflect the hours of the day and represent the subtle aging process. These triptych supports are placed fully opened on twelve grey pedestals positioned in a circle. While inside the circle, the viewer is surrounded by paintings that represent different phases of life. It is only when the viewer is in the center of the installation that they become aware that they are part of a connection to a greater force. Title Sheet All drawings are The installation shot is: |
